Longford Affair Recovery Counselling

Affairs, and how to heal them

Helping couples recover from affairs is around half of my workload. Whether you're on the receiving end of a full-blown affair, or a foolish "indiscretion", it's normal to feel a mixture of hurt, anger, and betrayal. It can take some time for these feelings to go away, especially if your partner is unsupportive.

I help both of you come to terms with the affair (indescretion, betrayal), and to begin to feel that there is hope for recovery. I help the spouse who has suffered the affair to begin to express their feelings openly, and I make sure they feel heard and understood by their partner. I also help the spouse who had the affair understand how it really is for their partner. In my work with affairs, I've heard things like "It was only a kiss" or "It was only text messages". I help them understand that their kisses or texts have caused real hurt and pain.

I help explore ways to rebuild trust, and have a look at what - if anything - was wrong before the affair happened. I will help you avoid the fatal trap of allowing the affair to be "swept under the carpet". An affair pushed under the carpet will always come back later to cause trouble. I will help you make a quick start to your recovery, and keep you on track while you do it. Recovering from an affair takes work and time, but it's definitely "do-able".
