Counselling for expatriates and their families

For expats, whever you are in the world, you (or a family member) might be experiencing culture shock, homesickness, or simply difficulty with relocation adjustment and settling in.

Here are some stages of expatriate life, where counselling would be very useful:

- Contemplating an expat job
- Accepting an expat job
- Being posted overseas as an expat, by your current employer
- Arriving in your new host country
- Fitting in at the regional office, or....
- Setting up your organization's first overseas office
- Dealing with settling in, homesickness, adjustment
- Relocation problems affecting expatriate families
- Finding schools for your children

If you at any one of these stages, and you think you need help from an experienced expat counsellor, then you should get in touch with me. I offer sessions by Skype, at a time convennient to YOU.

I have been an expat child, teenager, adult, and new father, living in Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Beijing. I have over 20 years of counselling experience. (University of Strathclyde post-graduate qualification)

Timeline of my expat life:
1966: Two years in a small town in northern Malaysia, aged 8 years. (The only foreign boy in the local school!)
1968: Return to N. Ireland - my first experience of being a "returning expat"
1974: To Hong Kong aged 16. New school, new friends, Irish sweetheart left behind - hard times!
1976: Began my working life as a young trainee in Hong Kong.
1990: First adult expat relocation: Executive in Singapore.
1992: Returned to Hong Kong to retrain in a new industry.
1993: Opened one of the very first "Representative offices" in Beijing.
2000: Returned to N.Ireland to begin counselling training - an expat relocation and a return to education.
2001: Relocated to Glasgow to undertake Post Graduate counselling studies (Strathclyde University).
2002: Relocated to N. Ireland to practice counselling and to care for my widowed mother.
2005: Relocated to Glasgow for better counselling employment prospects.
2010: Returned to Beijing as C.E.O. of the company which I started in 1993.
2017: Relocated to the Republic of Ireland - A big move for a family.

Now: All happy in our new home. A successful transition!
